I stopped going to Harvest Records in W.Asheville because they seldom had any 'classical'but decided to giv'm a chance today and lucked out.
A musician or someone musically inclined must have died; at least 20 quality recordings of excellent music and most off that path we know so well. I chose 6 that appealed for various reasons, cleaned'm and played, so far, 3.
I don't really need another Brahm's Double but ever since I read that Gabriel Allon thriller, I've wanted a Devils Trill.
I'm a sucker for unique packaging and a lover of Baroque choir music, especially sung in drafty old barns
Can't have too many Night Musics and the Grieg and Prokoffiev are new to me.
Mravinsky!
Concerto for Digestive Noises doesn't have that much appeal but I was anxious to hear a new to me Mozart Mass from a DG Tulip. This one I played; the Mass is gorgeous: soloists, miking of the choir, and overall recording. I give it 5 Tulips.
Surprised to see Major Leaguers like the Boston and Rostropovich on Erato but the label has done me well on smaller works so I gave it a try. Rostropovich could mail it in and be great but the engineer used a Rectal Microphone on the Cello. Now I like hollow body resonance as much as anybody but, ... The orchestral accompanients were mixed kinda wierd, too, at one point I thought someone was practicing in an adjoining hall.
Not a big fan of Baker (not that I've heard much, either) but I have a half dozen of these excellent Berlioz Cycle recordings, this one's European and Cleopatre is new to me so I plunged. Meh! Boring score and I couldn't wait for Baker "to stab herself between the two big trees".
