It's all about the music, dude! Sit down, relax and listen to some tunes.

RE: I think Sinaisky is an underrated conductor

Re: Schreker, I'd put his opera Gezeichneten at the top of the list, BUT some of the music is over the top, as is the libretto. The story involves a frail woman who paints a deformed man's portrait, and while she's painting him, she falls in love with the guy, yet she can't consummate the relationship because the act would kill her. (I've used that excuse myself over the years: classic "I love your mind but not your body condundrum.)

The music closing the first and second acts really delivers: truly the last gasps of the "infinite longing" style of Wagner's Tristan. In the 3rd Act, Ms. frail woman finds herself kidnapped dropped off on Orgy Island. Within 15 mins, she gets deflowered by some random muscle warrior dude. (So typical.) Deformed man kills random muscle dude, and frail lady is not happy, which inspires deformed dude to kill himself.

All that said, the music is to die for. I used to have the Marco Polo CD with De Waart, produced in Netherlands, but the soprano is a bit harsh. Then Decca's Entartete production came out with better voices and production values, but in the end, the De Waart is still a bit more incandescent.
