That would be Daria Rabotkina, whose recording of Rachmaninoff, Ravel and Gershwin concertos (with the Tartarstan National Orchestra) prompted the reviewer at Music Web International to exclaim, "Who are these people? And how can they be so good?" I had downloaded this performance in the best quality I could find (16/44.1 - CD quality), and although the SQ was pretty good, a spectrographic analysis revealed that some of the overtones were getting chopped off just above 20kHz.

I sent an e-mail to Daria a couple of weeks ago, informing her that all her work wasn't really getting through to the listener when the sample rate was so small (with those chopped off overtones!). I figured she would just chalk this up as an observation by some audiophile nerd, and, frankly, I wasn't really expecting a reply. But sure enough, Daria evidently does care about her fans, and I got my reply a few hours ago.

She said that, although no one else had mentioned the phenomenon of missing overtones at CD resolution (big surprise - LOL!), she would consider releasing her future recordings in a higher-rez format if (and this is a big if) there was sufficient demand. While that statement doesn't give me a lot of hope, I still appreciate her willingness to be open minded about it. She also mentioned that she would be playing in SF in the October/November timeframe and hoped it might be possible for me attend. (And I certainly will attend, assuming the date is free.)
