Bobby McFerrin is often referred to as a jazz vocalist (and composer), and in recent years, a conductor. Of course, all musicians are entertainers in a sense. But to single him out as an entertainer in a list of classical conductors strikes me as insulting and demeaning in a number of ways. It belittles his accomplishments as a performer. It demeans his music and jazz in general by implying it is not as serious or important an artistic endeavor as classical music. And, however unintentionally, it borders on racism, in my opinion, echoing the "entertainer" characters of the minstrel shows.
I mean, do you ever read about the entertainer Herbert von Karajan?

- They should have called him a Jazz Singer. Tho he gets some gigs, he's not much of a conductor. - oldmkvi 19:26:18 07/20/16 (7)
- No need to call him anything. - rbolaw 19:34:08 07/20/16 (6)

- Musician Bobby McFerrin seems apt. Vocalist Bobby McFerrin a bit more accurate... - musetap 10:27:56 07/21/16 (0)
