Home Music Lane

It's all about the music, dude! Sit down, relax and listen to some tunes.

Thanks for the review

Although I guess you can't make everyone happy. I really enjoy detailed reviews of new releases that can guide me past my usual like/don't like reactions. I do not have the musical background or knowledge to write comments like yours (unless I find them somewhere else and copy them here without attribution...) and they can help me understand concretely what I'm experiencing in feelings. I just try to enjoy the music. And, like good reviewers, you gave us references to other known and previously reviewed performances.

Every new release can potentially be great, or at least good, and help us experience a new way of listening to the music. Sometimes you have to get past the marketing hype, although these days the pictures are quite pleasing, to find out if the musician is any good. Yuja Wang is being marketed like many other babe musicians. If you don't take the time to listen to her performances, you might miss a true rising star.

I admit to liking certain performers, groups and composers. I really like the Takacs Quartet, so I always buy their new releases on Hyperion. The same is true for conductors like Jansons and Chailly. And, of course, I'm on the lookout for new soloists who are always vying for our attention. The streaming services make this last activity much easier and cost-effective.
