"there are other recordings of the same music that are better, in your opinion. In that case, you devote way too many words to this one"
That's an interesting point of view, but, to me, your second sentence really doesn't follow from the first. IOW, you're saying that only the very top recordings are worthy of a detailed discussion? I don't share that opinion at all. In many cases, I have nothing but contempt for so-called "top" recordings. (And, remember, I'm someone who has owned over 80 recordings of the Mahler Fifth Symphony - and the more I heard, the more I became convinced that there is no such thing as a "best" recording. Sure, I have my favorites, but far from me to claim that any of those are the "best" for other listeners.)
As far as what and how much these types of posts accomplish, I hope at least a few people might have learned a little about what makes Scriabin's music tick (at least IMHO) through my comments about Vanessa's performances.
Oh. . . and one last thing: I'd say that the reason these threads tend to be so "lengthy" is that a lot of people on this site are genuinely interested in and feel strongly about the subject, both pro and con to my own view. In fact, I'll bet that, deep down, even you feel strongly about the subject, despite your protestations of boredom with it. ;-)
In any case, batten down the hatches: Nicola has a new recording of the Glazunov Concerto coming out, and I'm about to post about it, even though I haven't heard it yet. Each person here will have to decide for himself whether to spend precious time reading it. ;-)
