Funny how children with a good ear for music, especially those with musician parents, even if they don't become musicians themselves, develop their listening tastes over the years, and often begin listening to classical music as adults. But how many more decades, if ever, before your son pays for season subscriptions at the Barbican Centre, or Disney Hall, or Carnegie Hall?
Classical music is now so far off the radar, at least in the US, that in coming generations, I think the full-season full-size professional symphony orchestras and opera companies will begin to scale down to smaller part time ensembles, even in major cities.
