Yes, your comments about the NYT music coverage are accurate. Yes, that particular issue was an outlier, yes, the NY Philharmonic was on tour, and yes, their are many other sources in today's internet world.
But Britney Spears and Chelsea Handler are old news in the pop culture world. They were all over page one solely because the Times is desperately trying to attract more readers in their 20s and 30s, to replace their elderly existing readers who are beginning to die at a rapid rate.
And readers in their 20s and 30s do not care about classical music, whether it's by Rheinhold Gliere or Morton Feldman. Today's children and teens will care even less, if that's even possible.
