And that's why I don't understand all the lengthy discussion (not just in AA and not just on the internet) in the classical music world about composers and performers giving the audience "what they want." The audience, except for a very small and ever-shrinking minority, doesn't want classical music. Not romantic, not modern, not tonal, not atonal. And increasingly, the audience doesn't want jazz either. Basically, if we don't teach our children to understand and appreciate older Western musical traditions, there will be no audience for that music, and that is already happening.
