A couple of brief comments.
First, I just looked online at the number of articles the NYT has published in the last couple of weeks of Classical Music Reviews. There are 20 articles there dated May 1 through May 15. I don't think that heralds the death of classical music coverage in the NY Times, especially considering that the NY Philharmonic is on tour.
Secondly, there are other sources of reviews and scheduling information available. For example, the national edition of "Classical Review" is complemented by local editions for New York, Chicago, and Boston. The "New York Concert Review" is also available online. Not as erudite, perhaps, as the NYT, but picking up some concerts of lesser visibility.
That said, I agree that coverage of classical music in general has declined, both in quality and in volume. And unfortunately, reviews tend to focus on the media favorites and the glitterazzi of performers, rather than delving deeper into the wealth of performances around the city by less sparkly musicians.
