Newey. I agree on the Bruckner. His Mahler was counter Bernstein and to some extent Walter.Acceptable in its time and even Bernstein I think drew closer to Haitink in purpose on his DGG recordings. Could never bare the Columbia set. The one I heard was not Abbado 's 9th which may be in your ball park, certainly mine .This was well nurtured and structured performance, but orchestra let it all hangout when appropriate. Explosisve moments and I was surprised. More daring than the 1970' performance obviously. Listen, he is alive and functioning to the highest degree-all of my favorites are gone and there are a few Mahler conductors I make an effort to see. As for Bruckner, there is Furtwangler. Of all people the Most performances with Cleveland I found very powerful. Go figure. The 1970's CB performances of Haitink for me have gone by the wayside.
