Very sad news to hear. Mind you 95 is a good ripe old age.I was once conducted by him as a child. I was in both my church and school choirs and my school choir attended a mass school carol concert at the Royal Festival Hall in 1958 or 59. I still recall Sir David mentioning the recent passing of Ralph Vaughan Williams hence my dating of the event.
What an incredible career. I guess that aside from the above my immediate thought is of his wonderful Argo recording of Spem in Alium and all of those other Kings College Cambridge records.
I just heard the BBC obituary and apparently it was Sir David who conducted the chorus on "You Can't Always Get What You Want". Not too many musicians whose repertoire includes Thomas Tallis and the Rolling Stones.
