You make a good point but I must agree with Chris because conductors DO extract different interpretations from the same orchestra.
But bear in mind that this sort of classification is to make searches for the one album easier. So what does one remember most - the orchestra or the conductor?
Note that this is not meant as a slur on musicians. Once the album has been located then the orchestra involved is revealed, on the album cover if nowhere else.
One trap I fell into was to list too much in the "Artist" slot. This made display impossible as it could not all be seen.
Bottom line is that classifying classical albums is a real PIA, something systems were not designed for in the first place. Listing pop artists is simple and note that not all back up musicians can be listed there either!
