As for obscure recommendations:
Brahms' Choral music (Blomstedt/SFO) and Strauss' Choral music, (Conlon/EMI I believe); gorgeous, autumnal stuff.
Respighi's two "Violin Concerti" the Concerto Autumnal and Concerto Gregoriano. (Chandos)
Shreker's Overtures/Preludes (Chandos) Fantastical sounds. I'd recommend his Gezeichneten opera, but don't even look at the libretto. Decca came out with a handsomely sung/played set but I still prefer DeWaart's on Marco Polo.
