I knew someone in college who thought that the end of Mahler's First was a perfect aural depiction of an orgasm! ;-)
I think I may have a bit higher opinion of Strauss's music overall than many other listeners do: in the whole history of music, it just doesn't get much better than Four Last Songs, but for me, some of his prior works, such as the end of Frau ohne Schatten or the end of Daphne, seem to foreshadow the depths of that final collection. Even a relatively early work, such as "Death and Transfiguration" achieves a transcendence at its end which is very rare in music - just my opinion of course and YMMV.
