I see what you are saying tho. Many cross over classical/jazz/rock come off cheezy.I am partial to Gulda's Cello concerto. Sounds pretty dated now but I enjoy it. Admiring Schiff's mean playing.
And his later 'Concerto for myself' is one of rare classical/jazz mix that I think that works rather well.
