And equally true is that the difference between perception and reality is, that reality, you might be able to change.
Where was I?
I have found dozens of howlers on the streaming service TIDAL. My favorite so far is that to cue up the famous Thomas Dolby album, the only thing that works is:
ALIEN'S ATE MY BUICK
And with that, Western Civilization died.
Whereas I have found very few discographic errors on Arkivmusic.com.
I have no idea how whoever handles that issue decides where to put Pärt and the rest of the New Holy Rollers.
My guess is that most of the customers who stay on past the free trial pretty much know what they want, and so that categorization issue is probably not a big drain on the Help Desk.
One feature of Pandora that I assumed I would really miss is that you can just choose a Channel and let Pandora pick the tracks. Except that works best for 1950s Small Combo Bop and the deeper you get into Classical, the more disappointing it can become to hear one disconnected movement after another. Luck of the draw--sometimes it is OK.
The big difference is that Pandora picks the music and you can't go back, but ArkivMusic streaming is on-demand, so the "Empty Room" issue is I assume a much bigger financial worry for ArkivMusic, so they can't just algorithm up a workday full of "Seeing as you like THAT, you should like THIS," because they will be on the hook for the royalties but you might have been called away on an emergency and did not shut down your office computer...
I rather doubt ArkivMusic (blah blah blah, JMR has a contract with them) will move up to CDQ or HR because they have a vested interest in selling physical media.
But they also have a vested interest in picking up the slack in imparting Cultural Literacy in Music left by most public school systems, and for that they are to be commended, in that their composer biographies and analyses of major works have it all over TIDAL.
