As I've commented each time I've read an anti-Cage post here -- and there have been many -- try his string quartet in four parts from 1950. Atmospheric, meditative, and influenced by his studies of far eastern philosophy, and nothing that's too disturbing or jarring.
The funny -- or ironic -- thing about all the hostility here towards Cage and other modernists is that in general they were trying to force the audience to rethink basic comfortable assumptions and look at things in new ways. To make that happen, they often wanted to be disturbing and jarring. Of course, some were more successful than others in doing things that had depth, interest and meaning beyond being merely jarring. But I suspect most would take the hostility here as a compliment. And Cage had a sense of humor, too. I think part of the point of 4'33" is to poke gentle fun at his would-be critics, some of whom still don't seem to realize that the joke is at their expense. ;-)
