Don't want to get into a debate about this, Dave , but two things about Spotify:(1) There are really no "unpaid subscribers". If you don't pay, you have to listen to advertising much as in the old days of broadcast radio and TV, for which Spotify is paid. (I find this advertising to be overwhelmingly irritating. For this reason alone, I find free Spotify to be useless [except] to identify what I might want to buy.)
(2) IMO, Spotify's strategy is to become the dominant, near monopoly music streaming service and get people used to paying for it. Once that is achieved, it will increase subscription prices enormously, and probably force even paid subscribers to listen to some advertising. The major cable TV providers followed this strategy.
IMO, I don't think Spotify will last too long unless it succeeds in this strategy.
