In my opinion, Sergiu Celibidache was to Bruckner like what Wilhelm Furtwangler was to Beethoven....I think the "slow", introspective reads by Celibidache let the haunting inner melodies come through, demonstrating there is a lot more depth to Brucker's music than given credit for.
Believe me, I was someone who once wondered how anybody could even like this composer's music.... (Read my early posts here.... ) It took me *years* to figure Bruckner out.
