It's all about the music, dude! Sit down, relax and listen to some tunes.

RE: Big loss - Nico Castel

Travis - thanks for the notice.

Yes indeed - this is a significant loss. Such a big-hearted, sympathetic singer! I got to accompany him once in concert (I think it was also in the late 70's) in the unlikely location of Salinas, CA, in a program of arias and Sephardic songs. My wife and I drove him down to Salinas from Palo Alto, and he had us in stitches during the two-hour drives (coming and going) by relating some of the dirt that went on behind the scenes at the Met! He was, shall we say, a bit ambivalent about Pavarotti! After the concert, he presented me with his LP of Sephardic Songs, which he then graciously inscribed, "To Chris - my favorite Pacific Coast accompanist"! When CD's came out, I got rid of almost all my LP's (even my Turandot set autographed by Sutherland AND Pavarotti!), but I held on to Nico's LP (even though I lacked the means to play it) and I still have it to this day. I now see that it was reissued on CD - I'll have to get a copy!
