I just found out about Marcus' passing this morning. I came here to put up a thread, but others have beat me to it.
This is a sad day for music in Detroit. It's hard to imagine another standard-bearer taking his place--I can't even think of anyone who might be able to do that. I will always regret not having found a way to get a recording of him with my band before leaving for Chicago. If I'd had any business sense at all it would have happened, but I was pretty clueless. He will be missed by many--musicians and listeners alike.
Sad to hear about Bob Belden as well...I played a lot of his music in various big bands over the years.
