Magazine 60: "Don Quichotte"

For 30 years now, people have struggled to identify the new wave dance song, "Don Quichotte," by France's Magazine 60.

It supposedly came out in 1984, but I seem to recall first hearing it in early 1985. Here in San Francisco, it received a smattering of airplay. But it was better-known at dances. DJs would often throw it in with, for example, King's "Love And Pride" and Baltimora's "Tarzan Boy."

One of the last times I ever heard "Don Quichotte" on the radio was in summer '85, when I was walking across the parking lot at Honolulu's Holiday Mart. And what is it called now? Don Quijote.

Anyway, because radio stations rarely named the band, or even the song title, the general public has a difficult time identifying "Don Quichotte." You'll overhear people asking each other, "What was the no no no senor song?"

Thanks to internet radio and retail stores piping in 80s music, Magazine 60's "Don Quichotte" is heard more frequently now, than in its 1985 heyday. But now that you know this song, you can (a) impress others with that knowledge, and (b) spread the musical wealth.
