I used to shake my head in wonder at German and Japanese tourists in NYC who would casually set Leica or Nikon cameras on the table or seat next to them in busy restaurants. They seemed completely unaware of their dangerous and vulnerable situation they were putting themselves in. They were probably used to doing such things without worry back home.
Most travelers use much smaller and easier to conceal cameras these days, but those who prey on unwary tourists in other ways remain. I'm a big fan of that quartet, I hope everything turns out OK.
