I'm moving slowly with mine - completed Das Rheingold yesterday and Act 1 of Die Walküre earlier today. I must say however, that I really don't have a vested interest in the Solti Ring - my first LP Ring was Karajan's (although I did have Solti's Rheingold on LP too). However, I did get some of the stuff associated with the Solti recordings, such as the Derycke Cooke analysis of the Leitmotives.
My main impression so far is that I really miss the multi-channel format of more modern recordings! And some of those Culshaw sound effects have become tacky over the years - at least IMHO. I miss the video subtitles as well - following the libretto is such a drag these days. ;-) And seriously, they could have shown a sentence-by-sentence text and translation on-screen. One of the Naxos blu-ray audio discs does this, and it works out very well. However, it was nice to hear Crespin as Sieglinde - I still love most of her recordings.
BTW, I just checked Amazon and I see you must have paid considerably less than I did. The copy I bought at Amoeba SF was $75 - however I paid for it entirely in store credit. ;-)
