When someone comments on how a recording is "only" 96/24 lossless and how it is no match for the vinyl version. In my experience, most of the 96/24 (and better) recordings soundly trounce their vinyl counterparts. When it comes to frequncy response, signal:noise ratio, dynamic range, etc., vinyl doesn't stand a chance against lossless, hi-res files.
And that's before you compare the facts that with the hi-res files you don't have to deal with tics and pops, scratches, surface noise, limited dynamic range, and (very) limited playing time. And just try playing your vinyl in the car or while you're out jogging and such!
I truly got tired of the vinyl playback ritual which forced me to spend 5 minutes prepping the system and source materials for the dubious pleasure of up to 25 minutes of un-interrupted playback. Such a deal. With a well-sorted digital playback system, one can enjoy hours upon hours of beautiful music, in-home and outside, without a single interruption...
IMHO, digital playback wins, hands down!
