RE: Schubert quartets/quintet - recommendations?

Is the Tokyo you have on RCA? If so, you have one of the best of no. 14. They also recorded 13 and 15, both near the top, I think.

I haven't heard a better Schubert string quintet than the Alban Berg quartet with Heinrich Schiff on EMI/Angel.

If you have a turntable, the Quartetto Italiano are really good in S's. quartets (on CD, too). The Alban Berg mentioned above can on occasion be found on LP. I have one and the sound (and playing) is terrific.
