Remember what Virgil Thomson said:"Reviewing music or reviewing anything is a writing job. It's nice if you are experienced in the field you are writing about, but writing is what you are doing."
Of course there are some exceptions, but, in general, I would agree with Thompson on this. (And of course, some critics can't write either!)
