Don't rock the boat:
- Stick to the certifiably great masterpieces - no fluff repertoire (certain works by Chopin MAY be OK however)!
- Another way of saying the above: mainly stick to the German repertoire - because it has SUBSTANCE and STRUCTURE and ARCHITECTURE (unlike other music)!
- Avoid tempo extremes - no show-off speeds (because you wouldn't want to disrupt the ARCHITECTURE)!
- No crazy editions - Urtext only - and if you hear another pianist using an edited edition, express your discomfort by uttering, "Oh Dear!"
- When writing about music, emphasize the spiritual greatness of your repertoire (and, by extension, your playing of it)!
I don't think the above applies to Lang Lang, especially if Liszt is his "Piano Hero". ;-)
