Sergio and Odair Assad are masters. They've made a bunch of albums. My favorites are:
-- Latin American Music for Two Guitars
-- Saga Dos Migrantes
-- Alma Brasiliera
They've also done some very good albums of all classical music and tango, especially Piazzolla. If you ever have a chance to see them in concert ......
Egberto Gismonti "Danca das Cabecas" -- Part I is just Gismonti on 8-string guitar and Nana Vasconcelos accompanying with percussion (Nana later played with Pat Metheny Group) Just hearing the album for the first time, I would have thought it involved overdubbing and many tracks. But thing is, I actually saw them perform this in concert when the album was being released, and was so blown away, I went shopping the next day. This may be the single greatest solo performance on guitar I've ever witnessed, made that much more amazing by the work of Vasconcelos.
Gismonti has released many other albums, and he's written some really great music. But he performs as much or more on piano than guitar, despite his remarkable talent.
Here is his beautiful and deeply touching piece called "Agua e Vinho" which (to my knowledge) he only ever recorded on piano, but here arranged and performed by Sergio and Odair Assad (although the photo is Gismonti).
