Of those you have listed in the title, only Thibaudet and Pollini really impress me..... I love Ashkenazy the conductor, but Ashkenazy the pianist never did much for me. I also like Pletnev with high-horsepower Russian works, but he doesn't adjust for other composers.I think Argerich and Brendel were overrated (heard Brendel in the flesh in Cleveland a few times), Uchida just plain "meh", Ax and Schiff were decent. (Also heard Ax live in Cleveland.)
As far as pianists are concerned, Horowitz IMO was the standard. The best of the rest were Earl Wild, Artur Rubinstein, Arturo Michelangeli, Antonio Barbosa, Sviatoslav Richter, and others I can't think of.... The recent pianist I think is really good is Stephen Hough. And maybe Grigory Sokolov. (I would have thrown in Ayako Uehara, but she seems to have burned out. Her repertoire was too limited.)
