Tuba Mirum; How Did Mozart Always Know

I somehow made it through life as a not-too-bad amateur trombonist without playing Mozart's Requiem. Not even Tuba Mirum as an exercise, which is a crime.

"Amadeus" has been playing at my house the past few nights and I was moved to get out my Hogwood/AAM and listen all the way through. Never got through side one; printed out the Tuba Mirum for trombone and have been teaching myself to find the proper legato style.

Like Salieri says, "celestial"!

Playing these notes you realize how 99% of them are in the harmonic "sweet spot" of the horn and listening to Kirby, Watkinson, etc.it makes you realize Mozart always managed to place the instrument precisely in that part of its range that sounds the best for each in it's own distinctive way. Soprano or Bass, Oboe or Bassoon, French Horn; as a player or singer you have to appreciate how easy the composer makes it to sound "celestial" or "comic" or whatever is called for because he has a knowledge that is unsurpassed.
