RE: Since we're talking about Barber does anyone else find his Adagio too "brooding"

Without a score it would depend on which recording you were listening to but on the Berliner Philharmoniker recording I just checked out it's the section beginning with the Bb minor chord at 5:48 through the E major chord ending at 6:10. Roughly the golden section of the composition.

Taste/opinion is one thing but I would recommend staying away from rating compositions ("good" or otherwise) unless qualified to do so.
