I wonder just how long it took the person writing the blog to dig up the slowest, most turgid performance of the Moonlight that he could find, just to make a point. Digging around on YT, Kempff and Horowitz popped up and they don't play it all that much slower than Schiff.
The form of the piece isn't really that unusual, there are plenty of similarly built pieces. The Saint-Saens G minor concerto comes immediately to mind. I have never been able to get out of my mind that quote describing the Saint-Saens as starting out like Bach and ending like Offenbach. Can't remember who said it, I'm sure you do.
