Home Music Lane

It's all about the music, dude! Sit down, relax and listen to some tunes.

Yes - you're right about Jenny's beauty of sound, and your observation about the relative lack of rhythmic oomph in A. Davis' conducting may be a factor in why I didn't quite like this performance as well as the Oramo-led recordings with Batiashvili (CD - wish it were hi-rez!) and Suwanai (another beautifully engineered SACD). But Jenny's playing is so good that it makes me want to investigate her earlier Debussy/Ravel/Franck and Schumann/Brahms albums which I missed when they were first released - or indeed the Chausson album which you mentioned.

I also agree with you about the superb engineering - that just seems to be par for the course with Chandos these days. You're also right that this is a conversion from a 24/96 master to DSD for the SACD. I checked my 24/96 download with Spek spectrographic software and it looks as good as it sounds, although the high frequencies don't extend as high in the concerto as they do in, for instance, Finlandia, where you can see musical signals up as high as 34 kHz with no ultrasonic noise.
