A talented young German musician had to choose between writing ordinary but commercially lucrative material and brilliant stuff that was ahead of its time but didn't make much money.While he was young and a big hit on the live concert circuit, he tried to do both. As he got older, he lost popularity for a variety of reasons (personal, health problems) and concentrated on avant garde stuff that few people listened to.
He was Ludwig van Beethoven.
