From 1977 to 1982 saxophonist Chico Freeman was on an unstoppable roll.
10 top flight albums one after another with first class sideman and excellent production values. Chico showed total command of his horns - both outside and inside.
" Kings of Mali / Beyond the Rain / Chico / Warriors / The Outside Within / Spirit Sensitive / Still Sensitive / Peaceful Heart, Gentle Spirit / Destiny's Dance / Tradition in Transition ". (I know Still Sensitive was finally released many years later, but was probably recorded right around the Spirit Sensitive sessions).
Anyway - WHAT HAPPENED? Outside of his stuff with The Leaders and Roots, I believe the quality of his releases nosedived and I actually lost interest in him. I mean he was as good as they come for awhile. One of my very favorites. Any thoughts?
