The last time I'v listened to the Bruck 5th was 3 years ago [another lower priority piece] while visiting the Grand Canyon [2009]. Very appropriate environment.

It's a piece that takes a bit of getting used to for most listeners, I think. As you've put it, "The music is either riveting or boring. There's no in between..", and I agree that it takes a dedicated conductor to bring it off.
