I post here only occasionally, but I lurk here a lot. I have seen your many perhaps-half-in-jest expressions of distaste for the HIP approach. Would you mind elaborating on the basis of your distaste? Is it just a reaction to the intellectual hubris of the leading academic HIPsters, or do you think that the performances lack musical merit on their own terms, or is it something else?
I ask this question with innocent curiosity, having no dog in the fight (other than the fact that I like a lot of HIP recordings).
