If you have a problem with the way any particular period's music sounds, and expect all music to sound the way you've gotten used to, be big enough to admit that.
But don't parade it as thoughtful or informed.
There is no period of recorded human effort that I am not interested in.
The most interesting is here and now, and our future with this planet.
I've been a successful change agent, so I'm used to dealing with 'that's the way it is' thinking.
I accept that lots of people 'think?' that way, but I don't respect it.
Because it manifestly isn't true.
I am bothered by a lot of 20th Century art and music, and I think the artists wanted us to be. Much of it is an honest response to the human story of the 20C which was a brutal denial of the 19C's positivism.
