I've finally finished listening to all the quartets, some several times, with the Buchberger Quartet on Brilliant Classics. They are really excellent recordings, artistically and sonically. They use modern instuments with an eye towards historically informed performance, making for a very good combination. The set is 23 CDs plus a CD-ROM with quite the extensive program notes, quartet by quartet, by the namesake first violinist. My respect for Haydn, already quite high, has grown even more. What amazing pieces, from the very early to the very late. It's all wonderful and I highly recommend not only this repertoire but these performances. Again, excellent sound, all recorded within the last five years. I listened on Grado headphones for the ultimate and intimate chamber music experience. You CAN get it all. (sorry!)
