I found the Leslie Gourse "Straight, No Chaser (The Life and Genius of Thelonious Monk)" (1997) to be a rather tepid and unsatisfying read.
Given that it was the first full on biography of one of the most interesting, captivating and unique musicians we've yet seen, I can forgive it
a teeny bit for being disappointing.
But, this looks and sounds very, very promising!
