Jim,
If you have little or no grounding in Django, I can't say this strongly enough: "Please, listen to Django himself for a while before you begin exploring those who came after him."
Some of the latter day disciples play guitar extremely well. To me, that which is strong, playful, and alive about Django's music is HIS SPIRIT: it's not the rhythms, licks, or motifs. I haven't heard anyone play music that is even close to his when you are looking for a human spirit expressing itself through music.
When you've got several hours of Django in your ears (and heart), I think you'll have a better foundation for sifting through his musical offspring.
