If you are going to narrow down the piano sonatas to the D. 960, shouldn't you also narrow down the quartets to the last two? Some of the sonatas and quartets are not so great, but the very best of either genre are as great as anything that has been composed by anyone, IMHO. I would say that the last three sonatas and last two quartets and the Great C Major Quintet are all at about the same level of off the chart profundity and musical and transcendental perfection. I one heard Brendel do the last three sonatas in one recital. That was a memorable event!
