As a matter of fact, I've played the orchestral reduction of the Piano/Trumpet Concerto, since it seems to come up during "competition season" in the SF Bay Area every couple of years or so. The trumpet writing is sometimes very awkward to play on a second piano! :-)

As for Hamlet, I think that's one of Shostakovich's strongest works. As you might suspect, I have the DVD-Audio of the Yablonsky performance on Naxos. (But Prokofiev's Hamlet music is stronger still, IMHO!)

(I'm less enthusiastic about "Age of Gold" - oh well!)
