EBerlin's suggestions (as usual) are interesting.= J.S. Bach: absolutely
= Elliott Carter: I agree, but thousands won't. Carter is hard core, intellectual not to say academic, atonal contemporary composer. This stuff is an acquired taste.
= Messiaen: I'm still struggling with this composer. To my ear, much of his stuff is just weird. Don't be put off by the Catholic mystic titles, though.I like Shostakovich a lot -- more so than Prokovieff.
By the way, for me Brahms is a bore. Magnificent architecture and workmanship but just too, too bland.
