Some perspective is needed on these things. Tina Brooks, who I saw and heard in live performance a number of times, was quite enjoyable to listen to, but to suggest that he was "great" simply renders the word meaningless. As I said in an earlier post, if he's great, what about Rollins, Young, Hawkins & Coltrane, all of whom had a huge impact and influence upon those who came after them-including Tina Brooks? Listen all you want, but that doesn't make him great in any truly acceptable sense of that word..
