why do so many dis their early stuff?
Writing a "simple" pop song is the most difficult of tasks. No reliance on fancy equipment, over-complexity. Great, original melodies are what great songs are made of: the inventiveness, the imagination to do so, is what elevates any musician.
Incredible vocals, lean arrangements, beautiful songs.... and so MANY!
You can pick twenty or thirty (too lazy to count) Beatles early tunes and they'll stand up to the single best of any other pop performer of that or any other era.
Let's not sell the Beatles short: listen to the music of that period before they came along (not jazz, Mo, or RB, gospel)...
