A couple of weeks ago strolling past the Festival Hall and a busy sunny sunday I was stopped in my tracks by this jazz quartet playing of course live and unamplified in the fresh air.
I was rivetted. One guy playing soprano sax, another double bass and two guys on what looked like upside down woks with dents in them Apparently called a hang.
the sound was fabulous, i only wish I could get that sound at home. I can get close to a studio recording of it by playing their cd which was for sale. i bought two, one for a friend and we both love this disc.
They sound a bit like Keith Jarret eyes of the heart era without the piano if that makes sense.
I really hope they make it big time as they were nice guys and accomplished musicians. Forgot to say they are called PORTICO QUARTET.
Check out their site at myspace i think.
Oh cd was only four stunning tracks called (something going down on) Zavodovski island.
I'm no relation to these guys in any way just very happy to have heard them.
cheers
