Home Music Lane

It's all about the music, dude! Sit down, relax and listen to some tunes.

Agreed about Mozart--if I hear one more V-I cadence....

...it all does seem rather fluffy, doesn't it? I even sat through the supposedly greatest Mozart recording of all time: the London/Decca Figaro with Klieber. Twice.

You're getting contrary opinions from people who mean it, and others who hang around here just to be contrarian, or who hover around other people's arguments pounding their scandalized bosoms like the prototypical maid whispering asides to audiences in--well...opera!

Anyway to make this thread worthwhile, there *is* some Mozart that surprised me, or at least catered to my barbaric tastes: the Violin Concerto #1: the second mov't is astonishing in its depth, the Sinfonia Concertante for Violin and Viola: same thing--more complex chord progressions and a first mov't theme that's irresistable. The very late Piano Concerti, and finally, Don Giovanni's final act has some truly affecting, dramatic music as well.
